What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic Dentistry can allow you to transform how you look and how you feel about yourself in as little as one visit. With the advanced treatments we use here at The National Implant Centre you can have a beautiful smile to be proud of more easily than ever before. Cosmetic Dentistry can range from a whitening procedure to full veneers or anywhere in between.

Cosmetic Dentistry

CrownA crown is a tooth-shaped cover which is used to restore a very damaged or discoloured tooth. They are also used to restore implants. It completely encloses the tooth, strengthening the remaining tooth structure, restoring or improving its appearance and function. It can be made out of porcelain (ceramic), metal (precious or non-precious), or a combination of materials.

Our veneers can completely alter the shape and look of your smile.
A dental veneer is an artistically crafted, thin shell of porcelain that is bonded to the front surface of a tooth. Veneers allow dentists to change the shape, size, and colour of teeth that may be broken, mal-positioned, badly discoloured, or in need of improvement. When done correctly, veneers enhance a patient’s smile in a truly amazing way!

Teeth whitening is a safe, effective and conservative way to whiten your smile. Professional teeth whitening is a simple process ensuring great results. Our take home whitening kits allow you to whiten your teeth in a gradual and convenient way. The kit we most commonly use here at the National Implant Centre is the Philips Zoom NiteWhite take home kit, where we have found fantastic results. Our whitening gels contain fluoride which remineralises your teeth to help protect against sensitivity.

Appointment 1

What happens during my whitening consultation?

During this appointment, your dental professional will discuss the quick and simple procedure and costings. If you are happy to go ahead with the whitening, you will have impressions taken of your teeth (both upper and lower). These impressions will be sent off to our dental lab where the technician will make custom made contoured trays to fit your teeth.

Appointment 2

This is a very quick and easy appointment! The Dentist/Hygienist will fit your custom made trays and give you instruction on how to use the whitening gels. During this appointment, we will also determine the pre-operative shade of your teeth and take some clinical photos to refer back to when you have finished the whitening process.

Teeth Whitening F&Q

Teeth WhiteningIs teeth whitening safe?

The answer is yes! When a dentist/dental professional is completing your whitening, the treatment is completely safe. However, we don’t recommend it for children under the age of 16.

How long does the treatment last?

Depending on ones lifestyle, diet, smoker or non smoker the treatment can last up to two years. However, if you feel your shade of white has changed you can simply top up your whitening at any time from home. Simply purchase a syringe of whitening gel from our clinic.

What product is used?

At The National Implant Centre, we provide patients with 16% Philips NiteWhite whitening gels. Our dentist recommend using the gel for 2 hours per day to begin and gradually start to increase treatment time to wearing it overnight. We recommend doing this for 2 weeks. For more information on this product, please click here. https://www.philips.ie/c-e/pe/teeth-whitening/zoom-at-home.html

Does whitening hurt?

Although our gels contain fluoride, mild tooth sensitivity is to be expected during the whitening process. A minor percentage of patients will experience a more severe sensitivity but should only last for 2 weeks during treatment. We will also recommend to you a desensitizing tooth paste to use during the process.

How white will my teeth go?

Again this is dependent on patient lifestyle, diet and smoking status. During your consultation, your dentist will instruct you on what food/drinks to avoid during whitening in order to gain the optimum results for your whiter, brighter smile!

Composite Bonding before and afterComposite bonding is an easy and effective way to make small adjustments to teeth using a specially formulated composite material.
The bonding is added to the tooth to help restore small chips, fractures and cracks, as well as improving the cosmetic appearance of discoloured, shortened or misshapen teeth.
Composite bonding is appropriate for any patient. Any little imperfection can be improved upon with dental bonding. It is a pain free treatment and requires no anesthetic or drilling.
It’s particularly great because we don’t remove any tooth structure. To bond, we add directly onto the tooth.
